A critical look at vaccination - The benefits of
vaccination far outweigh the risks, according to the Centers for Disease
Control (CDC) in Atlanta and the World Health Organisation (WHO). How true
is this statement really? Should parents be concerned about side effects
such as encephalitis and autism? Two types of vaccines. In order to
understand the effects and side effects of vaccines, we need to understand
that there are two main types of vaccines, namely live “attenuated” vaccines
and killed vaccines. |

Are Vaccines To Blame For New Autism Cases? - Federal health
experts say that over 80 percent of the nation’s toddlers are getting
vaccinated on time. But as the rate reaches record levels, a debate over
vaccination and autism is heating up. Recently, parents of autistic children
staged a gathering in Washington D.C., and Robert Kennedy Jr. has since
gotten involved. “These are people who have been through hell,
literally,” Kennedy says Now, Kennedy and the parents have joined forces to
push for a public health campaign. They say something in vaccines is
triggering autism and ADD epidemics. “The science connecting brain damage to
Thimerosal is absolutely overwhelming,” Kennedy says. Thimerosal is a
preservative that contains mercury. It is often used in vaccines. Critics
say that when the government added more childhood vaccines in the 1990s, it
created unsafe levels of mercury for children. At that same time, the number
of autism cases skyrocketed. By

Autism And Vaccines -
In Medical Matters, passionate voices
spoke on the subject of autism in Washington D.C. Wednesday, hundreds
of people who maintain there is a link between autism and childhood
vaccinations held a rally on Capitol Hill, asking congress to outlaw the use
of mercury in childhood vaccines. The rally came one day after the
nation's leading medical organizations reported they have found no link
between autism and childhood vaccines.

autism, and other neurological disorders, which they claim could lead to
reduced vaccine coverage, resulting in preventable outbreaks of disease

Autism down: Some credit mercury removal - In what may be a bellwether for autism rates
nationwide, the number of new cases of autism in California has fallen for
the first time in more than 10 years, according to new data compiled by the
state Department of Developmental Services. The total number of autistic
children receiving special education services from the state continues to
grow-- bringing the current total to 28,046-- but the rate of increase
peaked in 2002 and has dropped slightly since then. California has the best
reporting system for autism in the United States because it guarantees
special education services for autistic children. Because of its tracking
system, the state is generally considered a predictor of what is to come for
the rest of the country. Experts said, however, that
they don't know what's causing the numbers to drop. |

Autism-Mercury Debate to Bring 700 Attendees Together for 'Power ...
- National Autism Association Will Join in Push to
Remove Mercury in Medicinal Products, Acknowledgement of Mass Poisoning.
A large turn-out is expected in DC on July 20 for the 'Power of Truth'
rally. Over 700 supporters have registered to attend the event, which will
mark the first comprehensive unified effort to push for the removal of
mercury from all medicinal products, including domestic vaccines and those
currently exported to third-world countries. The National Autism Association
(NAA), a 501c3 non-profit organization that advocates for children's rights
and provides financial aid to affected families, is one of eleven national
orgs to support the joint effort. Executive Director Jo Pike says her
organization will also be there to spread awareness about numerous
peer-reviewed studies that have shown a link between mercury and
neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism. "Our children will never
receive the care they need unless our government health agencies admit
what's happened," says Pike. |

Autism activists stage rally demonstrating concerns over childhood ...
- Autism activists staged a rally on Capitol Hill Wednesday to
demonstrate their concerns over childhood vaccines. Those taking part in the
rally charge that the government has covered up evidence linking Thimerosal
- a preservative once used in vaccines to autism. Activists want Congress to
force the removal of mercury ingredients from all vaccines. The FDA banned
Thimerosal in vaccines six years ago but it still shows up in trace amounts.
The Centers for Disease Control and other medical experts say the vaccines
are safe. Several studies have found no evidence the vaccines cause Autism. |

Commentary: How do we protect our children from mercury in vaccines?
- I held my son and cried when he received his first vaccinations. But
my tears weren't over his pain. Instead, I was thinking, "What if vaccines

the complex issue of childhood immunizations. One group has no idea a
controversy is raging over the mercury-based preservative thimerosal still
found in some vaccines. They dutifully give their babies 21 jabs in the
first 18 months of life. Others have heard just enough to be terrified.

Debate on autism link to vaccines fired up again -
In a relatively unusual event, federal health officials
called a news conference this week in an attempt to affirm the safety of
vaccines. This came among the growing concern of some parents who allege
that vaccines can cause autism. A rally by
autism activists is planned this week in front of the U.S. Capitol on to
emphasize their belief that the government has concealed evidence linking
autism to a mercury-based product once used in vaccines. The activists will
also demand more research into what they consider is the growing problem of
autism. Dr. Julie Gerberding, director of the
U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),
said at the news conference, that there has been renewed interest in the
issue of vaccine safety, particularly on whether the preservative
thimerosal, may be linked to the occurrence of autism in children.
Unfortunately, autism is often diagnosed between the ages of about 18 months
and four years, which is about the time that toddlers and young children are
getting their vaccinations. By NewsMedical.net |

Dose of precaution - Nick Harris jokes that his mom has printed out the
entire Internet in her mission to understand the neurological disorder that
causes the Hamilton teen to, in his words, ''float through my day." The
teen's daily struggles are so intense that Harris, 14, withdrew from school
last winter to be privately tutored. He has been diagnosed with
Asperger syndrome, a form of autism that Harris's mother, Suzanne Messina,
believes was triggered by thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative once
commonly used in childhood vaccines and now the center of a national debate.
Messina is so passionate about the issue that she has started a statewide
coalition to ban mercury from vaccines in Massachusetts. The preservative
has been removed from most shots given to children since 2001. However,
state Representative Bradford Hill of Ipswich recently filed legislation
calling for a total prohibition, inspired, he said, by Messina's campaign.
Similar legislation is pending in a number of other states, including
Delaware, Illinois, and New York. By Kay Lazar |

Dr. Monica Martin Goble: Feared autism-vaccine link isn't proven
- Let's direct energy to real mercury threat from plants True, true and
unrelated. That seems to fit the proposed autism-vaccine link when one
examines the data. Yes, reported rates of autism have increased since the
late 1980s. Yes, that was when thimerosal, a mercury-based derivative used
as a preservative, first appeared in childhood vaccinations. But there are
no reliable data to prove a cause-and-effect relationship. To link the two
as cause-and-effect is not warranted and is misleading at best. Somehow the
lay public continues to hear the message that vaccines might be causing
autism. Community Advisory Board member Dan Gould's July 1 column,
"Americans need to look deeper into autism surge," perpetuates this
groundless fear. |
