Saturday / This community's concern for a 9-year-old autistic
boy with a winsome personality brought out hundreds of volunteers on a
mission to find him after he went missing over the weekend. Friends and
strangers alike braved biting temperatures to search neighborhoods and comb
the rugged mountain behind his house. - But they were denied a
happy ending when Logan Mitcheltree, wearing an orange backpack, was found
dead Tuesday morning near a gated mountain road about 1 1/2 miles from his

Autistic Boy Denied Residency In Australia
- The family
of a 12-year-old Indian boy chosen to appear on a government-sponsored
calendar honouring people with disabilities has been denied permanent
residency in Australia because of the child’s autism, his father said today.
Indian-born Rophin Morris, who is described as “moderately autistic” by his
father Mr Jude Morris, was honoured late yesterday at a government launch of
a calendar to mark 3 December as International Day of People with a
Disability, his father said. But the family is currently living in limbo as
it appeals the immigration department’s rejection of their request for
permanent residency, Mr Morris said by the Statesman |

Comment: Minette Marrin: How the carers hijacked an autistic
man called Andrew
- Last week I received a report I’ve been waiting for on an investigation by
the local government ombudsman into a complaint against Bolton metropolitan
borough council. It tells a disgraceful story. It’s about what happened
recently to a vulnerable young man, referred to as “Andrew Taylor” to
protect his identity. Andrew has Fragile X syndrome, which involves autism,
a learning disability and epilepsy. So he has very complex and particular
needs and is entitled to continuing care and support from the council by The

Logan left a powerful message to the community
- When Logan Mitcheltree was discovered missing Saturday afternoon, the
South Williamsport community and its neighbors joined together in a mission
- to find Logan alive. Hundreds of volunteers combed Logan’s neighborhood,
the municipality and the hills surrounding it. In an age when we worry
about prejudices toward people based on race, religion and handicaps,
Logan’s autism did nothing to mute the effort of volunteers, police, fire
and other emergency personnel. They searched everywhere for Logan on what
may turn out to be among the three most bitterly cold days and nights of the
next three months. When Logan’s lifeless body was found Tuesday, there was a
collective feeling of anguish, frustration, failure and sadness. All
those emotions make sense. But during times of grief, when we all ask why
something so tragic happens, it is helpful to look at the positive message
beneath the surface, even if that message doesn’t entirely answer the
question, byThe
